這尊佛像底座垂落的衣紋呈現出獨特的對稱波浪式樣,同樣的處理手法也見於其他北魏時期的佛像,如松原三郎所著《中國佛教雕刻史論》(Chuugoku bukkyo chokokushi ron),第一卷《六朝前期》,東京,1955年,圖版179號所刊登之石雕佛像;以及佳士得紐約拍賣會2004年3月24日第73號拍品,一尊刻有相當於公元508年紀年的鎏金銅佛像。

NORTHERN WEI DYNASTY, DATED BY INSCRIPTION TO THE FIRST YEAR OF ZHENGGUANG, CORRESPONDING TO AD 520


The inscription on the reverse may be translated as, 'In the first year of Zhengguang, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the Buddhist disciple Chen Xiansheng commissioned a figure of Shakyamuni in memory of his late elder brother, Chen Mannu.'

The distinctive treatment of the drapery that cascades over the dais in a symmetrical, wave-like patten can be found on other Buddha figures of Northern Wei date, such as the stone example illustrated by S. Matsubara, Chuugoku bukkyo chokokushi ron (The Path of Chinese Buddhist Sculpture), vol. 1, Early Six Dynasties, Tokyo, 1955, no. 179, and the gilt-bronze example inscribed with a date corresponding to 508 sold at Christie’s New York, 24 March 2004, lot 73.
