Dark brown vase with intricate floral patterns etched in light tone, cylindrical shape with narrow neck, isolated on white background.

A fine tradition with a profoundly undervalued aesthetic. Sold for $27,720 (approx. RMB 240,000)—a modest sum reflecting its underestimated value. At the heart of Song ceramics lies an inclusive aesthetic, distinct from minimalism or the folk-craft (Mingei) ideals championed by Yanagi Sōetsu and his followers. Kochukyo's early taste was highly respected, thanks largely to its founder, Hirota Matsushige (Bukosai). Such pieces are destined to reclaim their esteemed status in the future.
