Jades from Bonhams have always performed well. This time, a Song Dynasty jade ring sold for HK$1.6 million at 30 times its estimate at a Hong Kong auction, and the Song Dynasty craze was in full swing. The price of Warring States jades has also risen steadily, with a gradual progression of taste towards the earlier wares.
Smaller pieces are being favoured by new collectors, and the future trend will be to focus on aesthetics rather than the size of the objects, indicating a maturing buying force for the Mainland Chinese buyers.

Each side finely carved in low relief with a dense pattern of comma spirals, all between the raised inner and outer borders, the stone with calcification, fitted box. 12.5cm (4 7/8in) diam.

Warring States Period/Western Han Dynasty
Carved in relief on both sides with neatly arranged comma spirals pattern, all within two narrow raised bands at the inner and outer edges, the translucent stone of pale yellowish tone with dark inclusions, fitted box. 6.8cm (2 5/8in) diam.
Compare a slightly larger pale green jade bi of similar form (8.2cm diam.), early Warring States period, in the Aurora Museum, illustrated in Jades of Warring States Period, Taipei, 2007, p.65, pl.14.
