An important example of the indistinguishable nature of official and non-official kilns, this piece was part of the renowned antique dealer Edward T. Chow’s (Qiu Yanzhi’s) collection. The design and size of the foot's spurs resemble those found on a similar Southern Song Guan ware flower-shaped washbowl from the Guo Shanming collection, which was previously sold at Sotheby’s. This resemblance may have been one of the reasons why Qiu Yanzhi identified it as a Guan ware piece.
